We were in our thirties, and in the middle of having four babies within six years. We were also executives, running a quickly scaling entrepreneurship-focused NGO. We both had one foot in the home caring for our small children, and one foot in the office trying to change the world.
We are modern parents. We don’t value stuff, we value experiences. We don’t want sameness every week. We want variety. We want flexibility. We want to be able to easily access unique, beautiful experiences that can be used to SHAPE our children––their character, their values, and their skills.
Statistics show that millennial parents (like us!) spend only 34 minutes a day of undistracted time with their kids. Our desire as parents is to shape our children through shared experiences, but the burden of planning and developing those experiences ourselves is so time consuming.
The Adventure Clubs Philosophy
To a child, LOVE is spelled T-I-M-E.
To a child, LOVE is spelled T-I-M-E. Healthy relationship is rooted in extended TIME spent with those we love. 34 minutes a day of undistracted time is just NOT enough. In our culture, character-shaping moments are often delivered after a toddler’s temper tantrum, or around a hectic dinner table, which is quickly cleared to make space for the never-ending homework, or shouted across the car while trying to calm the latest sibling fight.
With a lack of focused time together connecting and enjoying each other, children can easily become rebellious teenagers or disruptive young adults; and it’s no wonder. They are missing a depth to their relationship with their parents, they are missing happy, healthy MEMORIES.
This is not the model of healthy families.
When we all became parents, we wanted to spend highly intentional time learning together with our children––exploring together, growing together. We wanted to carve out time to provide the space for shaping character, shaping worldview, drawing out life lessons, and then life got in the way, busyness got in the way, school got in the way.
Adventure Clubs is a gift to you, mom and dad. We want you and your family to thrive in the time limited time you have together.
What Adventures Are
Adventures are exciting, planned experiences, designed by our amazing team of early childhood experts (over 50 educators, occupational therapists, coaches, entertainment design specialists, etc.) Adventures are throughout a city at partner “host” companies – everything from farms, to bakeries, to museums to luxury car companies, to ballets, and so many more. Each adventure costs, on average, between $4 -10 a child, so it’s affordable for millennial parents to go on these parent/child adventure “dates” as often as they like. (P.S…. we also offer FREE adventures!)
What Your Family Will Get Out of Adventures
Each adventure focuses on:
- Having good, pure childhood fun, designed to deepen the parent-child relationship through a unique shared experience.
- Growing the child’s important early childhood skills such as fine motor development, sensory integration, social awareness, empathy and more.
- Building social relationships, as adventures are experienced alongside like-minded families who also value spending quality time with their children.
The Adventure Clubs Dream
We believe we can bring redemption to the separate lives usually lived by parents and their children. Adventure Clubs makes it easy for parents––both moms and dads––to enjoy life-shaping moments with their children by joining us on adventures accessed by our free mobile app.
Our DREAM is is to see every Adventure Clubs family going on at least one adventure with their children each week.
Harvard did an important study which showed that the #1 single most important indicator of a person’s future happiness depends on the quality of the closest relationships while they are young.
We believe that if there are hundreds of thousands of connected families who are going on once-a-week adventure dates, this movement can actually change the world. We think it will lower divorce rates, strengthen bonds between parents and children, lower ADD and ADHD, lower teen depression and suicides, and lead to happier, healthier moms, dads and kids.
Our Messeage to Parents
Our Adventure Clubs message to the millennial parent is simple:
Put down your phone, say no to that meeting, turn off your TV, and GO on an adventure together as a family. Turn your hearts toward your children. Their childhood will be gone in flash.
